Which Pearl speaks to YOU?

Updated: Jun 27

You already know which pearls I love to design with—but now, let’s explore something even more personal: Which pearl is right for you? Or really… Which pearl would you wear?

Each type of pearl has its own personality, story, and charm. Let’s take a closer look at the varieties I work with most, so you can discover the ones that best reflect your style and spirit.

Tahitian Pearls

Among the myriad of pearls available, Tahitian pearls stand out as my absolute favorite. These stunning pearls, known for their enchanting iridescent colors and large sizes never fail to captivate. Dark grey Tahitian pearls, in particular, are mesmerizing with their mysterious luster and sheen. What makes them even more fascinating are the subtle undertones of purple and green that dance on their surface, like a moody sea at sunset. That magical depth? It’s what makes every Tahitian pearl feel alive.

Baroque Pearls

Perfectly imperfect—that’s the magic of baroque pearls. Whether freshwater or saltwater, they embrace irregularity with grace. Bumps, lumps, and organic contours give them character and individuality. I’m especially drawn to large, drop-like baroque pearls. Their unexpected shapes make every design feel one-of-a-kind and full of personality.

Keshi Pearls

Keshi pearls are like tiny sculptures formed by the sea. These pearls don’t have a nucleus, which means they’re made entirely of nacre. That gives them extraordinary luster and unpredictable, fluid shapes. Their natural irregularity makes them a dream to design with—each one a little surprise from nature.

Peacock Pearls

These aren’t your everyday pearls. Peacock pearls dazzle with a dark grey base layered in vivid overtones of green, purple, and pink—just like the feathers of their namesake. Their rich color play adds drama and allure to any piece of jewelry. They’re perfect if you want to make a statement, but with elegance and edge.

Pastel Colored Pearls

Soft, dreamy, and endlessly wearable—pastel pearls add a gentle glow to any look. Think pale pinks, creamy whites, powder blues, soft greens, and peaches. I love mixing multiple shades and sizes into one necklace for a playful, airy effect. It’s a lovely way to wear color while keeping things subtle and sophisticated.

The Wonder of How Pearls Are Formed

What makes pearls even more fascinating is their origin story. Pearls form inside mollusks—whether in oceans, lakes, or ponds—when an irritant gets inside the shell. To protect itself, the mollusk coats the irritant in concentric layers of nacre, eventually creating a pearl. The color and tone of the pearl are often influenced by the mollusk's shell, especially the lip. That means every pearl is nature’s unique and patient masterpiece.

Designing with Nature’s Treasures

I feel so lucky to work with these incredible natural materials. Each pearl carries a piece of the world’s beauty—from the unpredictable wildness of the ocean to the refined shimmer of nacre built up over time. Turning them into wearable art is one of my favorite parts of being a jeweler.

So—whether you’re drawn to the moody magic of Tahitian pearls, the whimsical charm of baroque or Keshi pearls, the boldness of peacock pearls, or the softness of pastels—there’s a pearl that will feel just right for you.

The next time you admire a piece of pearl jewelry, remember the extraordinary journey it has taken from the depths of the ocean to your jewelry box.
